La Sicilia è stata definita il granaio dell’Impero romano, nei secoli ha perso questo primato, ma rimane ancora qualcosa di prezioso, in alcune zone dell’isola esistono delle coltivazioni di grani antichi, sopravvissuti alla massificazione del grano.
L’artista ha riprodotto dei piccoli silos, nove cilindri realizzati di argilla fresca al cui interno ha inserito il prezioso grano antico. La performance consiste nell’esplosione di questi vasi, che si sono deformati causando la caduta dei semi che costituisce una sorta di seminazione alternativa.
Successivamente i cilindri di argilla, sono stati cotti e poi installati sul luogo della performance.
L’esplosione dei vasi metaforicamente rappresenta l‘esplosione dei silos di grano, l’artista spesso associa elementi della storia contemporanea a suoi atti creativi, definiti dall’artista: Creative Execution.
Creative Execution#5 War Grain, è la quinta delle esplosioni eseguite dall’artista negli ultimi anni, ogni performance è legata a un evento specifico o al territorio.
CREATIVE EXECUTION #5 Grain War, 2023
Sicily has been referred to as the granary of the Roman Empire. Over the centuries, the island has lost this primacy, but something precious still remains. In some areas of the island, there are cultivations of ancient grains that have survived the massification of wheat.
The artist has recreated small silos, nine cylinders made of fresh clay containing the precious ancient grain. The performance involves the explosion of these vases, causing them to deform and the seeds to fall out, creating a kind of alternative seeding.
Subsequently, the clay cylinders are fired and then installed at the site of the performance. The explosion of the vases metaphorically represents the explosion of grain silos. The artist often associates elements of contemporary history with his creative acts, which he defines as "Creative Execution."
Creative Execution #5, "War Grain," is the fifth explosion carried out by the artist in recent years. Each performance is linked to a specific event or territory.
