Azione d’arte pubblica a Ragusa in piazza della Libertà, un lavoro complesso sull’immigrazione risolto attraverso la performance in quella stessa piazza in cui Benito Mussolini pronunciò le seguenti parole: “Fascismo ibleo Tu primo a sorgere nella generosa terra di Sicilia”. A distanza di anni la città che fu antifascista è avamposto geografico per i migranti che giungono dalle coste nord africane. Loredana Longo recupera il valore politico dell’immigrazione come conseguenza di un atteggiamento colonialista, e l’atto eroico di Maria Occhipinti, giovane donna ragusana che incinta si getto sotto le ruote di un camion per aiutare la fuga di partigiani nel ‘45. Dal balcone della torre Littoria, dove si affacciò Mussolini, sventola oggi una bandiera di stracci, sintesi dolente delle bandiere degli stati di provenienza di molti immigrati.

Public action art in Ragusa, in Piazza della Libertà, a complex work on immigration solved through the performance in the same square where Benito Mussolini uttered the following words: “Hyblae anFascism, you, the first to rise in the fertile land of Sicily.” Many years later, the town, which later became anti-fascist, is now the geographical outpost for migrants arriving from the coasts of North Africa. Loredana Longo recovers the political value of immigration as a consequence of colonialism, and the heroic act of Maria Occhipinti, a young pregnant woman from Ragusa who in 1945 threw herself under the wheels of a truck to help a group of resistance fighters escape. A flag of rags now flies from the balcony of Torre Littoria, where Mussolini stood on, as a painful metaphor of the countries of origin of many migrants.
